Step 1
Start out with a desired haircut. If your hair is really damaged, you may need to cut off more than you would like starting out and then let it grow back out. Be sure to get regular trims to help maintain your hairstyle and to keep split ends at bay.
-
Step 2
When washing your hair, be careful not to scrub. Gently massage the shampoo in at the scalp and distribute and shampoo to the ends. Don't pile your hair up to scrub the ends. This will cause the ends to fray.
-
Step 3
If your hair is prone to damage, it is a good idea to always condition after you shampoo. If want a sleek, shiny look there are many salon grade conditioners that work wonders. HINT: JcPenney salons sell a top line sleek and smooth system and they sometimes offer this product at half off for the large 33.8 ounce orange bottles. They are usually sold as a set with the shampoo included.

Step 4
Once a week apply a deep conditioning mask to your hair to help reverse any styling damage incurred during the week.
-
Step 5
Here is the best part and this is very crucial. Apply Biosilk leave-in silk conditioner every day before styling your hair. For most hair it only takes about a dime sized portion. Apply the Biosilk to the palms of your hands, rub palms together and apply to your hair from scalp to ends. Be sure to coat the ends good. This product will absolutely work wonders. I have found nothing that works better than this. HINT: I found Biosilk more than half off at Folica.com. Plus, the last order I saved an additional 20% which covered the shipping cost!

Step 6
Try to avoid putting your hair up with rubber bands. If you must put it up in a ponytail, never use regular rubber bands. Always use coated bands. Also, avoid sleeping with your hair pulled back. Your hair can break off if you make this a habit.
