The best way to help improve grammar is to use some of the basic tips on avoiding common writing errors.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • upgrade in grammar skills for writing articles, essays, letters, business and communication
  1. Step 1

Read writing back in the way you want it to sound. If you are using the word you and are as a contraction, you will always know if you spelled it correctly by reading the word you're as you are. This simply technique as with the words they're as in they are instead of their will never be an issue in your writing again.

  2. Step 2

Never totally depend on spell check for picking up these errors. It looks for spelling. A great example is the word your. In a sentence using this word, spell check will more than likely not correct the spelling if it was suppose to be the word you're.

  3. Step 3

English as a second language can be picked up for its' grammar by making a list of all the common contractions. Use a dictionary and write in a notebook all the forms and study it daily. Keep in nearby as you are writing until you have them in memory, although Step 1 of this article will definitely put you on the road to avoiding common writing errors.

on 5/16/2009 I try to get my daughter to read her writing out loud to see how it sounds, because she has a processing disorder, but she thinks it is a dumb idea. So her sentances usually do not make sense. I wish she would follow these simple tips. **5
