Grow Your Own Miracle Fruit - Synsepalum Dulcificum

The miracle fruit is an evergreen bush or tree growing to 18 ft. in its native habitat, but rarely to 5 ft. otherwise. The fruit itself is known as the miracle fruit because when consumed it makes sour or bitter foods taste sweet. There is a huge market for this food to be sold online, so if you have the patience and the area you can grow your own miracle fruit, and sell them online!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Seeds/pre-grown plant
  • highly acidic soil (between pH 4.5 to 5.8.)
  • level ground to plant on
  1. Step 1

First thing you need to determine if the area you live in is able to grow synsepalum dulcificum. The plant originates in the tropical forests, and is accustomed to high acidity and high humidity. These plants will grow best in the northeast, or indoors in a proper growing area. See the tips for additional growing hints & tricks.

  2. Step 2

If you decide to grow the miracle fruit from a seed, you can purchase them online or even at some local growers. You will want to start growing them indoors in a well lit area. This plant needs to stay warm at all times. Make sure the soil you use has a ph of 4.5-5.8. Starting from a seed will take a long time, usually for the fruit to sprout you will be waiting about 3 years.

  3. Step 3

Another option is to buy a plant already starting to grow. You can also find these online. This option is more expensive, but you are more guaranteed to have a plant grow. You will still need to wait a few years before you will see fruit.

  4. Step 4

The Synsepalum dulcificum does not like to sit in water, so over watering is dangerous. It will cause root rot if allowed to get water logged.

  5. Step 5

Once the miracle fruit has bloomed, it will produce fruit for many months throughout the year, especially if kept as an indoor plant in the proper lighting/temperature.

Tips & Warnings
  • During the Winter you should put a plastic bag over the plant to keep in humidity.
  • This plant does not need pruning
