How to Set up a Fire Drill at Home

Many of use do not have a plan or practice a fire drill in case there is a fire. Usually we don't think about it or we think it won't happen to us. Anyone can have a fire in the home at anytime. Especially having small children in the house; it's even more important to teach the children what to do in case of fire. Doesn't matter if you live in an apartment or home; you still should have a plan. Some of us might live on a second floor; if this is the situation there should be a working fire escape. Also make sure all windows are working properly in case you can't get out the door; than you can exit out a window. Once a month have a fire drill. Wait till everyone is at home and busy; than blow the whistle and as quickly as possible get everyone out of the house. Make sure you let the family know the importance of practicing a fire drill. After practicing a fire drill several times the family will know what to do. Especially children will know in case of fire get out of the house as quickly as possible. Safety is top priority. Fire drills are practice in schools; but we need to practice fire drills at home. Have a plan and practice safety with the family.

    Make sure all fire escapes are in working condition.

    Now you want to make sure all windows are working properly. So if there is a fire and the family can't get out the door; than they can exit out a window.

    Blow The Whistle
     
    Blow The Whistle

    Once a month practice a fire drill with everyone in the household. Wait till everyone is at home and busy. Now blow the whistle and exit everyone out of the house as quickly as possible. Get everyone to safety.
