There are a few different styles of cut-off saws available. From the hand-held, gas-powered concrete/masonry Makita cut-off saw to your basic circular saw, blade removal is either the same or similar for all of them. The safety precautions that you need to observe before replacing their blades are the same, too. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen and remove the blade retaining bolt with a wrench. Some saw manufacturers provide this wrench with the saw. If the saw does not have a wrench, use a socket and a ratcheting wrench, or an open-ended wrench.

    • 2

Remove the retaining washer from the arbor.

    • 3

Slide the dull blade off of the saw's arbor. Slide the new blade onto the arbor in the correct cutting direction (some blades have to spin a specific direction in order to cut correctly).

    • 4

Slide the retaining washer back onto the arbor, and thread the blade retaining bolt into the arbor until it is hand-tight.

    • 5

Completely tighten the blade retaining bolt with the wrench. Grip the blade between your thumb and index finger, and move the blade from side to side. If there is any play in the blade, or if the blade wiggles back and forth at all, remove the blade and reinstall it again. There can be no play in the blade, or it will be a safety hazard.

Tips & Warnings

  • The hole in the blade must exactly fit the arbor, or drive shaft, on the tool.
