How to Use Makeup Tricks for Disguising a Double Chin

Makeup tricks abound for reshaping various facial features. This type of makeup technique is called "contouring". Applying contouring makeup is as simple as using darker makeup shades to cause certain areas of the face to recede, and lighter makeup to allow the appearance of fullness in other areas of the face. When contouring, it is important to blend the contrasting makeup shades very well to avoid obvious stripes and marks of demarcation. The effect should appear as natural as possible. One of the most common reasons for contouring is to disguise a double chin.

Things You'll Need

• Makeup foundation that matches your skin tone
• Powdered foundation (up to three shades darker than your skin)
• Makeup brushes
• Makeup sponges
• Translucent pressed powder

Instructions

1. Apply your usual makeup foundation.

2. Dip a makeup brush into powdered foundation that is up to, but not more than, three shades darker than your regular foundation.

3. Tap the brush on the edge of the container to remove any excess powder.

4. Sweep the darker powdered foundation along the edge of your jawline from one earlobe to the other, and beneath your chin.

5. 

   Take a clean makeup sponge and blur the line of demarcation at the jawline so that this area softly blends into the foundation on your face. Add translucent powder over your face, jawline, and beneath your chin to set your makeup. Finish by applying the rest of your makeup as you normally do.

• Experiment to determine how much of the darker powdered foundation needs to be applied to disguise your double chin while still appearing natural. Be sure to always blend your makeup well.
