  • (2) 14 oz. Cans red kidney beans
  • Colander or strainer
  • Pot
  • Potato masher
  • 1 cup salsa or picante sauce
  • 2 minced cloves of garlic

      Open the cans of kidney beans and pour them into the colander over the sink. Rinse the beans until the rinse water is clear. This will get rid of excess salt.

      Put the rinsed and drained beans into the pot with the salsa and garlic. Bring the combination to a boil over medium heat. Turn down the heat and let the beans simmer for 10 minutes.

      Use the potato masher to mash the beans thoroughly inside the pot. You might have to add water to get a smoother consistency.

  • If you do not have 2 cans of kidney beans, you can substitute 1 cup of dry kidney beans cooked in 4 cups of water until they are mushy.
