If you haven't already, sign up for your free Yola account.

What is Yola? Yola was designed to help everyday Internet users design their own websites, free of charge. Simple and clean, Yola allows anyone the opportunity to create as many free websites as they wish. They don't even put advertising on your site, and there is no catch.

"Our website builder lets you easily take what's in your head and turn it into webpages in front of your eyes. And we do it without imposing banner ads or throwing up pop-up ad windows everywhere."

      DESIGNING YOUR HOMEPAGE

After logging in to your Yola account, the first thing you want to do is create your Homepage. Think of your homepage as your "welcome mat to the rest of your site," says Yola.

      Your homepage should:

      1. Grab people's attention when they visit your site.
      2. Give people a good idea what you have on the rest of your site.
      3. Give people a way to navigate to the rest of your site.

You want people to be interested enough to dig deeper into your website, but you don't want to cram in too much information. You're looking for a happy medium.

      PICK YOUR LAYOUT

Next you get to choose how your website is going to look. Yola lets you pick from themes and styles for your website, but you can also manually edit most of the standard options such as colors and formatting.

      DRAG & DROP

Now you just start dragging and dropping different page elements from the menu on the right into the center area, which is your site builder. If you want an image on your homepage, drag over the Image element. To put text under it, add a Text element.

Experiment with the various elements to get a feel for what all you can do with Yola. But don't spend too much time building your homepage. If you think of your homepage like a table of contents before a book, you've got a lot more webpages to build after your homepage! So don't worry if it isn't perfect the first time around. You can always go back later and change your webpages to make them better. You can't go back and improve on an empty canvass, however.

      ADDING MORE PAGES & PUBLISHING

After you've finished your homepage you must now build the rest of your website, and then finally you must publish your new free website. If you've made it this far the rest of the process is pretty self-explanatory, but if you find that you need some help check out the tutorials offered inside the Yola website builder members area.
