How to Build Murphy Bed Bookshelves
If you have limited space in your bedroom, and already have a Murphy Bed installed, then adding some multifunctional finishing touches to the structure can really brighten up the room. Bookshelves provide a stable and open display for all of your books, magazines, and small collectibles. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Wood glue
- Cordless drill and assorted drill bits
- Standard level device
- 4 Pre-cut wooden slats (1"x4"x12")
- 2 Pre-cut 2"x4" sticks of lumber (about 12" long)
- Assorted length screws
- Pencil

Stand to the foot of your Murphy Bed frame, on the left side and measure five and a half feet from the floor with your tape measure. Mark the measurement on the wall where it meets the frame of the bed with your pencil.

Attach one of the 2"x4" sticks of lumber to the side of the bedframe. The bottom of the stick must be flush with the pencil marking.

Use the tape measure and, starting at the pencil mark on the wall, measure toward the left in a horizontal direction, and mark the wall at twelve inches.

Securely attach the other 2"x4" along the line you previously marked on the wall. The two sticks should appear to make a right angle with one stick adhered to the frame of the bed, and the other on the wall.

Place a wooden slat at the base of the "L" shaped structure you have built. It should slide right in, and can be secured with the power drill. Repeat this step by placing another slat about eight inches above the other.

Fill drill holes with woodglue to prevent slipping
always wear gloves and goggles when using power tools.
