How to Put Transmission Fluid in a B18C1 Motor

The B18C1 engine is made by Honda and has a manual transmission. Manual transmissions do not have a dipstick under the hood, so the transmission fluid must be added through the filler bolt on the transmission fluid pan. You want to add transmission fluid if your transmission has burned some of the fluid or if some of the fluid has leaked out of the pan.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Use a jack to raise the car. You need enough room to be able to reach the filler bolt.

    • 2

Slide under the car with a 17 mm socket wrench and the oil pump can filled with Genuine Honda Manual Transmission Fluid.

    • 3

Unscrew the filler bolt on the transmission fluid pan with the 17 mm socket wrench. The filler bolt is near the top of the pan. The drain plug is located at the bottom of the pan. Do not unscrew the drain plug.

Insert the tube of the oil pump can into the filler hole. Begin pumping transmission fluid into the pan. Use a clean oil pump can. Do not use it if any other fluids have been put into the can. The transmission is delicate, and any foreign particles can hurt it.
Pump the pan completely full of fluid. The fluid will begin leaking out of the filler hole when the pan is full. You can also place the tip of your finger inside the hole to feel if the fluid reaches the bottom of the hole.

Screw the filler bolt back on the pan.

Tips & Warnings

  • You could use another type of manual transmission fluid, but check with a Honda dealership to make sure which brands can be used with the B18C1 transmission.
