How to Become a Registered Colon Hydrotherapy Hygienist

A registered colon hydrotherapy hygienist specializes in conditions that affect the body's major systems, primarily the digestive system. Because colon hydrotherapy hygienists work so intimately with the body, they must be trained to deal with situations that may occur while giving colonic treatments to people. You need to take part in a multilayered educational program to become a registered colon hydrotherapy hygienist.

Instructions

    • 1

Earn a high school diploma or GED. Programs to become a registered colon hydrotherapy hygienist, such as those certified by the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy (I-ACT), require that you complete basic education.

    • 2

Hold a college degree as a doctor of medicine or a registered general nurse, or receive 2 to 3 years of training in courses related to the function of the human body. You must have extensive knowledge of how the human body works, primarily the digestive system, the endocrine system, the nervous system and the circulatory system.

    • 3

Have a valid CPR certification card.

    • 4

Complete a board-recognized training course in colon hydrotherapy at an institution with instructors certified by the I-ACT or the Institute of Professional Colon Hydrotherapy. These are the two most highly recognized colon hydrotherapy organizations in the world. Their websites (see Resources below) provide information on locating schools recognized by these organizations.

    • 5

Attain membership in the I-ACT or the Institute of Professional Colon Hydrotherapy. These organizations provide continuing education workshops and programs for colon hydrotherapy hygienists.
