  1. How to Disassemble an HP Computer

    • 1

Flip the Hewlett-Packard (HP) computer over and remove the battery. Make sure the computer has been powered off before doing so. Locate the battery outline on the back top of the computer unit, and also the battery release mechanism just below it. Slide this mechanism to release the battery, and remove it from the HP.

Remove all the screws from the back of the HP. These screws, when removed by a Phillips head screwdriver, will free up the keyboard, as well as the RAM and hard drive. These compartment covers can be popped out once the screws are removed (if you need additional guidance, check your HP manual for your exact model). With the covers removed, the hard drive and memory can be removed. The hard drive may have additional screws around its perimeter that need to be removed. These will be small, so look closely. Once these parts are removed, the motherboard itself will be revealed. Disconnect the visible connections to the motherboard and gently pull the motherboard up by grabbing its right side.

Flip the computer back over and remove the keyboard shield. This is the plastic piece directly above the keyboard and below the screen. Use a flat object to wiggle underneath the edge of the shield and pop it up and out.

    • 4

Pull up on the keyboard itself, but slowly. The keyboard cable that runs from the bottom of the keyboard to the case will need to be disconnected. Locate the cable connector (where the cable feeds in), and unlock it by pushing it from its current flat position into an upright position. Then, remove the cable, and pull out the keyboard.

Remove the bezel of the screen display by using a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws around its perimeter. Work at one corner and then gently peel/pull off the bezel, revealing the two metal brackets beneath. Each bracket has two screws, and one bracket is on each side of the screen. Use your screwdriver and remove these screws.

Disconnect the inverter cable now that all the screen-related screws are removed. The inverter cable is located just below the center of the display. It can be disconnected from the connector that lies directly beside it. Then, pull up and out the screen altogether. Your HP is now disassembled.
