How to Install Tile to a Carpet Threshold

A threshold offers an aesthetic and functional purpose between two types of adjoining flooring. Where a carpeted floor meets a tiled floor, the threshold attaches to the floor and covers half of the tile and half of the carpet boundaries. This placement of the threshold holds the carpet in place and introduces the tile surface in an appealing transition. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the carpet so that it is taught to the tile border and apply tackless carpet strips under carpet to hold it in place. In cases where a foam padding is present underneath the carpet, staple the carpet taught to the tile border.

    • 2

Measure the length of the tile to carpet border using a measuring tape and cut the threshold to the proper length using an appropriate saw. (Hacksaw for a metal threshold; wood saw for a wooden threshold.)

    • 3

Place the combination threshold onto the floor so that the offset (higher side) is on the carpet and the lower side is on the tile.

    • 4

Align the threshold so it is covering the carpet and tile border evenly.

    • 5

Affix the threshold to the floor using screws and a screwdriver or a hammer and nails.
