A simple and economical way to create your own template for business cards is to use the Printshop software from Broderbund.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Printshop software program
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Install and open the Printshop program on your computer.

  2. Step 2

From the “Project Picker Menu” choose the one for “Business Cards”
    Choose “start from scratch”
Now pick the “type” that matches your “Business Card Stock” paper
After you do this you will be given a business card to fill in with your information.

  3. Step 3

Now you can insert a photo or other image by clicking on the “insert tab” on the top tool bar. Pick your choice from the drop down tool bar. If you choose “photo” you can access any of your own picture files on your computer. It will pull up the art gallery and you can choose to open from file. Search through your files to find the image you want to import. After importing you can move the image around, crop and do other editing to it as needed by clicking on it and using the "edit photo" bar on the left.

  4. Step 4

To insert words and information onto the card click on the “text” at the left and choose “insert text box”. You can make as many text boxes as you need. Each text box can be sized, edited and moved around to the positions you want. Use the "tools" for text fonts and colors and change them around until you get a combination that you like that is in balance and professional looking.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once you have your design and layout the way you like you can also print it and take it to a professional printer as an example for ordering what you want.
  • Before printing onto your cardstock, print a trial run on plain paper and lay it over the cardstock to be sure it lines up properly.
  • Research how to design a business card to find out what are the best colors and layouts to use.
  • If you have a logo that isn’t in your computer you can scan it and save as a jpeg file to use.
  • By making your own templates and card designs you can print up as few or as many as you need of each design.
  • Only print out a few for a trial run until you are sure that it is what you want. Save paper.
