How to Install Pendant Lighting
Pendant lighting is a highly fashionable and attractive form of ceiling light that hangs down from the ceiling rather than being flush up against it. Not only does this look have some artistic elements to it but it also brings the light closer to the floor, making it more intimate. The lights generally install in the same manner as other types of lighting. Don't work on any lighting system without first cutting power at the house fuse box. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut the electricity to the old light fixture at the house fuse box.
-
2
Take out the screws holding the existing fixture in place, using a screwdriver. Disconnect the wires above it, pulling the fixture loose and exposing an electrical box and three wires (black, white and bare).
-
-
3
Affix the mounting bracket from the new fixture to the exposed electrical box, using the provided screws.
-
4
Twist the copper grounding wire to the green grounding screw on the mounting bracket. Tighten the screw.
-
5
Assemble the pendant on the floor, according to the instructions it came with. There will be a light portion and a ceiling canopy portion, connected by a chain or cord.
-
6
Take the light up the ladder and hold the canopy section near the electrical box. Use wire nuts to connect the black wires from the canopy portion to the black wire from the electrical box, twisting the wire nut over both wires at once. Do the same for the white wire from the canopy and the white wire from the box.
-
7
Hold the canopy up to the mounting bracket. Set the wire connections up into the electrical box. Affix the canopy to the bracket using the screws it came with. The light portion of the fixture should hang down from the box.
-
8
Turn on the power and test the light.
