Step 1
Check out Boutiques. Visit local boutiques and inquire as to whether they have any local designer gowns in stock. Often times, boutiques will pick up gowns from local designers as it’s a great way to gain publicity for both parties. Ask to see a few of the gowns if they’re available. Get the name of the designer so you can look him or her up later. Also, take particular notice of the dress styles to see if you’re fond of the designer’s work. You will want to be discreet about the fact that you’re going to contact the designer later, or the boutique owner may not let you see the dresses!

Step 2
Visit Online Resources. You can find out if there are any wedding dress designers in your town by googling ‘wedding dress designers + your town.’ You will be given a list of results from designers who are close to your area. You can then contact these designers to get an idea of their prices and what kinds of gowns they create. Be sure to make a list and write down contact information for the designers so you will have it later.
Another thing you can use the internet for is finding designers who are more affordable than others. Even if the designer is not necessarily from your area, you could plan a short trip if it’s worth it or rely on the telephone or e-mail to communicate with the designer. This can result in you finding a really great deal on a beautiful dress. -
Step 3
Put the Word Out. Use your network of friends, family members and acquaintances to get the word out that you’re looking for an affordable wedding dress designer. Have people ask around or take down names if they hear of a designer you might like to speak to. You may even find that someone you know knows a designer that will create a beautiful dress for you that is also affordable. Give your friends, family members and acquaintances permission to give your phone number out if necessary.
By using the steps above, you can find a cheap wedding designer that can help you create the wedding dress of your dreams.
