This piano inspired hot pad features the curved shape of a grand piano and raised keys. Great for a gift to any taking piano or just loves pianos in general.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 oz Bernat Sport yarn in Black.
  • 1 oz Bernat Sport yarn in White.
  • Size H crochet hook.
  • Scissors.
  1. Step 1

    Abbreviations used in this pattern:
    Ch = Chain
    St = Stitch
    Sl St = Slip Stitch
    Sc = Single Crochet
    Hdc = Half Double Crochet
    Bk Lp = Back Loop
    Rep = Repeat
    Beg = Beginning
    Ea = Each
    Dec = Decrease

  2. Step 2

    MATERIALS:
    1\2 skein Bernat Satin Sort yarn in Black and small amount (1 oz or less) in White, H hook or hook to obtain gauge and needle to take yarn.

    GAUGE: 5 hdc = 1”, 3 rows hdc = 1”

    FINISHED SIZE: 8” X 8-1\2”

  3. Step 3

    KEYS:

    ROW 1: With White and H hook ch-7, sc 2nd ch from hook, sc ea ch across, ch-1, turn. (6 sts)

  4. Step 4

    ROW 2-3: Back Loop sc ea st across, ch-1, turn.

  5. Step 5

    ROW 4: Bk Lp sc next 2 sts, join Black, drop White (you will be picking it back up in row 5), bk lp sc next 4 sts, ch-1, turn.

  6. Step 6

    ROW 5: Bk Lp sc next 4 sts, fasten off Black, pick up White, bk lp sc last 2 sts, ch-1, turn.

  7. Step 7

    ROW 6-35: Rep row 2-5 7 more times.

  8. Step 8

    ROW 36: Bk Lp sc ea st across, fasten off.

    PIANO BACK:

    ROW 1: With Black and H hook ch-28, hdc 3rd ch from hook, hdc ea ch across, ch-1, turn. (26 sts)

    ROW 2-7: Hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn.

    ROW 8: Hdc dec next 2 sts, hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn. (25 sts)

    PUTTING THE HOT PAD TOGETHER:

    With needle and yarn sew the keys to the front of the piano top so it is the sa size as the back. Layer together and sew around outer edges.

    EDGING:

    With Black and H hook join in any st (working through both layers) ch-1, evenly sc ea st and row around working 3 sc in ea turn, sl st top beg sc, fasten off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although the hot pad is 2 layers of crochet, you may still be able to feel the heat off of a hot pan.
  • Best used as a pad to place a hot plate or bowl on.
