Things You'll Need:
- less dirty dishes!
-
Step 1
Remember in fifth grade when you learned least common denominator? That's key here. When you have a recipe that calls for 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup and 3/4 cup, you normally grab all three measuring cups. But use the 1/4 measuring cup for all three measurements. Just double it for 1/2 cup and triple it for 3/4 cup. You're already using less dishes!
-
Step 2
Do you really need a new fork? If you're serving fancy dinner guests, you'll want to have a different fork for your salad and your meal. But if it's just a lazy dinner with the family, use the same fork again. Just wipe it with a napkin if you feel anxious about reusing your fork.
-
Step 3
Try to think of utensils you've already used that will work again. For instance, when I make grilled cheese, I use the same knife I used to cut a pad of butter when I want to flip the grilled cheeses. It may not be as easy to use as a spatula, but it saves you one more dish to wash!
-
Step 4
Does this situation really require dishes? If you normally come home and have a snack of cookies or cheese curls, you probably don't need to be using a plate. Grab a napkin instead.
-
Step 5
Make more casseroles and crock-pot meals. These meals often require just one dish, rather than making chicken, rice, a vegetable and biscuits separately. You'll also save money by using one electricity source instead of three.
-
Step 6
If you're about to finish a container of ice cream or leftovers, eat it right out of it's original container. Saving a bowl or plate means less dishes to wash at the end of the night!
