Make an Easter Egg Hat Craft
Make an Easter Egg Hat Craft

Here are step by step instructions to create a winning Easter parade hat shaped like a giant Easter Egg. It is not that hard of a craft to make and the kids will have a great time creating and painting a giant Easter Egg.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Newspaper
  • Flour
  • Water
  • Paint/Brushes
  • Large hat (Cowboy Hat)
  • Large Balloon
  1. Step 1

    Gather supplies
You will want to make sure you have all the nessecary supplies to create the your Easter Egg Hat Craft.

  2. Step 2

    Prepare the Newspaper
Cut the newspaper into strips to cover the balloon.
(You are going to need a lot)

  3. Step 3

    Prepare the paper mache mixture
This is simply flour and water you don't want it to be too thick or too runny. You can add a little cinnamon to give it a better smell.

  4. Step 4

    Inflate the Balloon
The larger the balloon the more dramatic the Egg Hat will be.

  5. Step 5

    Wrap the balloon
Start by placing the balloon on a covered surface. Soak the strips in the paper mache mix and begin covering the balloon. After you cover an area smooth it out with your hand to give it a smooth appearance. Continue this step until the balloon is covered completely. The more layers you use the stronger it will be.

  6. Step 6

    Dry the Balloon
You will have to wait until the balloon is completely dry. It helps to sit the balloon in the sun to speed up the process. It should take 1-2 days to dry.

  7. Step 7

    Paint the Balloon
It is now time to paint the balloon and transform it into an Easter Egg. It helps if you paint it all one color first. Then let the kids go at it and paint it anyway they like.

  8. Step 8

    Cut the Balloon
After the paint is dry, get your cowboy hat and decide how you want the egg to sit. Then you will need to cut out a hole in the bottom of the balloon. It should be tight enough so that it holds on to the hat. Place the Easter egg on the hat.

  9. Step 9

    Decorate the Rim
You might want to decorate the rim of the hat so it is all covered. I simply placed Easter grass around the edge and put in some plastic eggs.

Tips & Warnings
  • You should give yourself at least a week to make the hat.
  • Great Craft for kids that participate in Easter Egg Parade.
  • Younger kids will become bored with the Paper Mache part as it can be a lengthy part of this craft.
