Moving can be a frustrating and frightening experience. No doubt you will often second guess yourself and wander if you made the right decision. To make things easier, read below for tips and tricks on how to prepare yourself for a move to a new city.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by researching your new destination; spend some time online looking at statistics and attractions for the area.

  2. Step 2

Next plan a visit to the city you are interested in. Pick up some maps and travel guides, drive around, decide where you want to live and if you have children make sure to visit area schools.

  3. Step 3

When you get back from your visit, create a checklist for everything that needs to be done. -Anything from contacting movers, to notifying they post office of your forwarding address, to collecting your medical records. --- Tip: It might help to organize your checklist into a time line starting 8-10 weeks before the move.

  4. Step 4

Don't overwhelm yourself. Start packing early and give yourself plenty of time. Also remember this is the perfect time to get rid of all the extra "stuff" you have accumulated over the years.

  5. Step 5

If your family and/or friends live nearby get them involved. Sharing your excitements and reservations with people you love will make the move easier.

  6. Step 6

Finally, make a plan of action to stay in contact with everyone. Technology has come a long way in the past few years. With texting, emailing, Skype, webcams, etc...there is no excuse not to keep in touch.
