Plan in advance. If you want to build a backyard pond in one weekend, you must plan in advance. Determine where you want the pond, how big it will be and what dimensions you need to take. With this knowledge you can plan your pond building easily.

2
Lay a garden hose out on the ground early Saturday morning in the shape and dimensions you want the backyard pond. When your friends show up to begin to help you with your project, assign them to different jobs based on their interests and abilities. Strong young men and women can start digging right away. Others can prepare the pond liner and all the pumps and hardware necessary.

Dig the pond on Saturday in shifts. Every body, even children, can get in on the digging action. Take turns shifting dirt and actually digging. By Saturday afternoon the pond should be dug.
-
4
Lay the pond liner in the dug hole and position it as required by the manufacturer. Create hand to hand lines to place stones around the perimeter or what ever edging hardware you are using. Position the pumps and filters where appropriate. Finish up Saturday by setting up the garden hose to fill the pond with water and enjoying some well-earned pizza and beer.

Begin Sunday morning by turning on the filter and pump and in the fountains you included in your pond. Most people will be very tired from all the work they did the day before. Sunday is a much more relaxed day in the backyard pond building adventure. Focus on potting plants and positioning them in the pond, adding any additives or chemicals you desire and landscaping around the perimeter.
