Reduce Symptoms of Sunburn with Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has been used to reduce sunburn symptoms for virtually thousands of years. It contains many different vitamins and minerals that help to promote healing and the cooling gel feels great on sunburned skin. Below is a quick guide that explains how to reduce the symptoms of sunburn using aloe vera gel. I realize that not everyone has an aloe plant at home, so included are directions to use over the counter aloe vera gel as well.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Aloe Vera leaves or Aloe Vera Gel
  1. Step 1

Slice open the leaves from an Aloe Vera plant. Cut directly down the middle so that you have two equal parts.

  2. Step 2

Rub the gel from the plant or from over the counter Aloe Vera Gel onto the sunburned skin until it is completely covered.

  3. Step 3

Continue to rub the gel into the skin until it is dry. It may feel sticky at first, but this is normal. The Aloe Vera gel will eventually absorb completely into the skin.

  4. Step 4

Repeat steps 1 through 3 at least three times during the first day of the sunburn and once or twice in the following days for best results.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a more severe sunburn, consider using Aloe Vera Juice instead of gel to keep the skin more moistened.
  • If your skin blisters or you experience chills and fever seek the help of an experienced medical professional as you may have sun poisoning.

on 5/11/2009 Wonderful article, rr and added to my favorites. I have already burnt once this year and with my skin that happens frequently. I have a few aloe plants so this is great. You can be sure I will be doing this all summer despite spf 50 sunscreens
