Ceramic tiles floors are beautiful, but they are also delicate. They crack easily and should be protected when painting any nearby surface. Unfortunately, accidents do happen. If you get paint on your ceramic tile floor and it has dried, resist the urge to grab a putty knife or sandpaper and scrape it off. This can damage the ceramic on your tiles. Instead, follow the steps below to remove the paint.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft paintbrush
  • Old rags or fabric
  • Gel paint remover
  • Scouring pad
  • Warm water and clean rag
  1. Step 1

Use a soft paintbrush to apply a thick coat of a gel paint remover on top of the paint. There are many environmentally friendly gel paint removers on the market (see Resources below for where to buy some).

  2. Step 2

Press a thin, old rag or strip of old fabric onto the gel. Let it sit there until the gel soaks through the top of the rag.

  3. Step 3

Carefully peel the rag back. The gel, and paint, should come off the ceramic tile. Use a new rag to wipe any remaining gel and paint off of the tile.

  4. Step 4

Wash the tile with warm water until there are no traces of gel or paint remaining. Or, mop the floor as you normally do.

  5. Step 5

Check the grout for paint. If there is any remaining paint in the grout, you may need to scrub it with a scouring pad. Try to use a thin one to minimize contact with the ceramic tiles as much as possible.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid using sandpaper or any other sharp tools to remove the paint. Also, try to avoid using harsh chemicals.
