McAfee 7.1 is a full anti-virus software suite that provides regular virus definition and software updates. McAfee should be renewed annually to continue receiving updates. McAfee provides you with an update program to help you download and install the latest virus definitions. Updating the program also fixes any bugs and security flaws. It's recommended that you update your McAfee 7.1 at least once per week to keep your computer as secure as possible.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Active Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Ensure you are connected to the Internet and open the McAfee 7.1 Update console. Right-click the McAfee icon in the system tray and click "Updates."

  2. Step 2

Click "Check Now" to search for the latest virus protection updates.

  3. Step 3

Click "Update" if any updates appear in the VirusScan Updates window. If there are no updates, the VirusScan Updates windows will tell you that McAfee 7.1 is up-to-date.

  4. Step 4

Wait for all updates to download and install. This process is completely automated. If you need to cancel the updates for any reason, press "Cancel." You will need to re-download and install any updates that weren't installed. The process can take several minutes to several hours depending on the size of the updates and your Internet connection.

Tips & Warnings
  • McAfee 7.1 is automatically configured to search for and install updates every four hours while you're connected to the Internet. To avoid large update files, update McAfee at least once per week. This will keep the update process under 10 minutes.
  • Always keep your virus definitions up-to-date. Otherwise, your computer is susceptible to the newest viruses and spyware.
