Fix a Cracked Plasma TV Screen

Plasma TVs are a type of flat-panel screen technology that contains tiny cells emitting noble gases in between two panes of glass. The noble gases are turned into a plasma electronically once inside the two panes of glass. Plasma TVs can crack or scratch easily, and as long as there is no plasma dripping from the TV or any effect in the television picture, it is perfectly safe to fix a plasma TV screen yourself.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Petroleum jelly
Eyeglasses cloth

Step 1

Turn on the TV. If the TV doesn't turn on, you feel a wetness around the crack in your screen or the picture isn't coming in properly, do not fix the TV yourself. Bring it to a professional.
Step 2

Turn the screen off and unplug the TV if the TV appears to be in working order except for the crack.
Step 3

Apply a thick coat of petroleum jelly to the crack. Rub it in slowly and thoroughly with a clean eyeglasses cloth.
Step 4

Reapply the petroleum jelly and rub off again, if necessary.
Step 5

Take the television into a repairman if you can still see the crack or it begins to affect your TV picture.

Tips & Warnings

If you see a liquid seeping from the television, dispose of it or bring it to a repairman as soon as possible.
Do not touch the television until it has been turned off and unplugged.
