How to Read IFO & BUP Files
IFO and BUP files pertain to DVD disks. They are relevant to the formatting of the DVD. If these files were damaged or missing, the DVD would be unreadable. There is not way to read these files directly, but their purpose can be readily understood.

Understand that that IFO files are the files where information regarding chapters, subtitles, languages, and audio are stored. These files are not encrypted and are a significant component to the DVD.

Know that BUP files are back-up files to the IFO files. They contain the same information that the IFO files contain and serve to keep the DVD readable if something happens to the IFO counterpart.

Do not attempt to open IFO or BUP files directly. DVD players and programs utilize these files and there importance is within of scope of reading a DVD. These files can also be read by DVD back-up software, but opening either type of these files is neither necessary nor possible.
