A blank recipe book makes a great gift for Mother's Day, mom's birthday or a wedding shower. It provides the perfect place to tuck recipes from friends and family or ones that were printed off a webpage or clipped out of a newspaper or magazine. These directions will show you how to take a simple photo album and transform it into a lovely recipe book for your own use or to give as a gift.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Slip-in pocket photo album
  • Blank recipe cards
  • Fabric
  • Heavy cardboard
  • Glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Index tabs
  1. Step 1

Slide the blank recipe cards into each of the pockets in the slip-in photo album. These albums usually have pockets on either side of each page, so when you open up a particular page, you should be able to see four recipe cards.

  2. Step 2

Cut two pieces of cardboard so that they are 1/4 of an inch shorter and 1/4 of an inch narrower than the front and back covers of the photo album.

  3. Step 3

Cut two pieces of fabric that are 2 inches wider and 2 inches higher than the cut cardboard pieces.

  4. Step 4

Stretch the first piece fabric over one side of the first piece of the cardboard, and glue the fabric down on the opposite side with a glue gun. Repeat this process with the second pieces of fabric and cardboard. Cut off any excess fabric on the back that may bunch up.

  5. Step 5

Cut a third piece of fabric that is 2 inches higher and 2 inches wider than the cover of the photo album when you stretch it open and measure the entire cover.

  6. Step 6

Stretch this third piece of fabric over the entire cover of the photo album and glue it onto the inside cover. Cut off any excess fabric to avoid bunching up.

  7. Step 7

Glue the back of the covered cardboard pieces to the inside covers of the photo album so that you cannot see any of the previous gluing. Secure these tightly by piping a thin line of glue under the edges of the seems and pressing down firmly.

  8. Step 8

Label the index tabs with common recipe book topics such as "meats," "vegetables," "breads" and "desserts." Secure these to the edges of the pages at appropriate intervals throughout the book. Make sure you stagger them so that each one is visible when you open the cover of the album.
