Perhaps you have a radiant floor in your kitchen that's covered with tile, or you're in the process of renovating your cabinets and you wish to install them on a tile floor. The good news is that it's possible to install cabinets over tile without removing or altering the tile. Even better news is that it will cost less than you anticipate.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sets of adjustable cabinet feet with accompanying fasteners
  • Cordless drill and bits
  • 2-inch-by-4-inch boards
  • Saw
  • Level
  • Long screws
  • Tape measure
  1. Step 1

When you install cabinets over tile, start by measuring up 3 inches from the floor. Using a level and a pencil, draw a line on the wall that's parallel to the floor. This line represents the bottom of your base cabinets. Use a tape measure to measure down from this line to find if there's any low spots in the floor. Mark these with your pencil.

  2. Step 2

Use your tape measure to measure up 34 1/2 inches from the first line you drew in Step 1. This second line represents the top of the base cabinet.

  3. Step 3

Turn the base cabinet upside down. Mark in the four corners where you wish to install the adjustable or leveling feet for your cabinet. You can, if you wish, pre-adjust them arbitrarily at 3 inches at this point. After you set the cabinets right-side up, you will have to check the level again and adjust accordingly.

  4. Step 4

Drill a hole for each of the center bolts of the leveling cabinet leg. Slip in the bolts through the inside of the cabinet, and secure them into the adjustable cabinet feet with the appropriate tool (comes with kit). If the leveling legs come with caps for the bolts, put the caps on now.

  5. Step 5

Turn the cabinet right-side up. Place your level on top of the cabinet and adjust the legs up or down as needed until the cabinet is level. The top line on the wall can act as a guide as well (see Step 1). Take your time with this step. You do not want to be left with a cabinet that rocks when you lean against it. When the cabinet is level, secure the cabinet to the wall by driving long screws through the cabinet back into the wall.

  6. Step 6

Add toe kicks to the cabinet. If your adjustable cabinet legs come with toe kick clips, you can choose any material you wish as a toe kick board and attach it to the toe kick clips.
