How to Mount Binoculars on a Tripod

Mounting binoculars on a tripod is actually quite simple. The most important things to know are that the binoculars are securely mounted and won't fall off and be damaged and that you don't strip the mounting screw on the tripod. Securely mounting binoculars on a tripod has a number of advantages, including hands-free viewing, constant focus on a specific area, and clearer pictures if you are using a binocular/digital camera combination.

Instructions

1. Remove the mounting plate from the tripod by pulling back the thumb lever on the top of the tripod. The lever will usually pull out to the right, releasing the mounting plate, which can then be lifted straight up out of the top of the tripod.

2. Locate the threaded hole in the bottom of the binoculars. Usually it is located near the center, in the space between the lenses.

3. Insert the screw from the mounting plate into the threaded hole in the bottom of the binoculars.

4. Turn the small handle or metal piece on the bottom of the mounting plate to turn the screw into the bottom of the binoculars. Continue turning until the plate is securely fastened to the binoculars.

5. Pull back the lever on the tripod that you used to release the mounting plate.

6. Slide the mounting plate into place on the tripod, making sure that it is secure on the tripod.

7. Release the lever to hold the mounting plate in place.

8. Wiggle the binoculars and mounting plate slightly to make sure that they are securely mounted. If not, pull the lever back and adjust the mounting plate, making sure that it is inside all of the brackets.

Tips & Warnings

• Leave the mounting plate on the binoculars when you move the tripod so that you can quickly reattach them when you are ready.

• Make sure that the screw is turning straight into the threaded hole on the binoculars so that you don't accidentally strip it.
