How to Repair a QuickTime Object on Windows XP
Because QuickTime files are Apple applications, there sometimes are problems associated with the way that QuickTime objects operate on Windows-based operating systems, like Windows XP. This is particularly true when there are updates made to QuickTime that are not detected on Windows-related systems. If you are using XP and receiving error messages when trying to open QuickTime files, the best way to repair this is to uninstall QuickTime and then re-install the most recent version.

1
Go to the "Start" menu on the bottom left-hand part of the screen and click the icon. When the menu opens, click on "Contol Panel." Then click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon. When the next window opens, scroll down until you find "QuickTime." Press the "Remove" button and XP will uninstall the program. This will not uninstall any QuickTime files. They will still exist, but simply cannot be opened until the newest version of QuickTime is downloaded.

2
To install the newest version of QuickTime, go to the QuickTime website (see Resources). Click on the link that identifies itself as the Windows version of QuickTime. Fill in the requested contact information and click on "Download."

3
Go to the desktop and find the QuickTime zip folder. Click on the folder and then click on "Run" when the next window appears.
-
4
Click on "Next" when the QuickTime installation window opens. A series of four more windows will open. Select next on each window and the subsequent window will open. QuickTime will choose where to save itself, therefore you do not need to input any information about where the program should be saved unless you want to.

5
When the registration page appears, enter the information that it requests. If you do not have a registration number, simply click on the "Next" button without entering any information. If you have a registration number that has been purchased, QuickTime Pro--a more advanced program--will install.
-
6
Know that window will appear. Select "Close" and the installation process will complete. Go to the desktop and click on the QuickTime icon. There now should no longer be any QuickTime objects or files in need of repair.

Be prepared to wait if a dial-up connection is used. Installation could take as long as an hour-and-a-half.
