How to Program a Sylvania VCR

Programming your Sylvania VCR is necessary if you wish to record any programs using the device. The best time to program your Sylvania VCR is when you first connect it and turn it on. Doing so will allow you to sync the VCR to your television and cable/satellite channels with ease. You will even be able to eliminate the blinking "12:00" found on the front of the Sylvania VCR.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Connect your Sylvania VCR to your TV and cable/satellite box if necessary.

  2. Step 2

    Turn on your TV set and set it to either channel 3 or 4, depending on your required settings.

  3. Step 3

    Turn on your VCR. When you do, you will be directed to select the on-screen language. Use the "fast forward" button to scroll through the options and press the "play" button to make your selection.

  4. Step 4

    Press the "fast forward" button once after you select the language. Doing so will activate the "Auto Setup" feature. Your Slyvania VCR will then search through the different channels and put all active channels into memory.

  5. Step 5

    Press the "Menu" button on the remote. Then, choose "Timer Programming." The "Clock Setup" screen will appear.

  6. Step 6

    Use your "play" and "stop" buttons to set the hours, minutes and AM/PM option of the clock. Press the "fast forward" button to cycle through each portion of the clock setup.

  7. Step 7

    Choose how often you want to record the program. You can program the VCR to record once, daily or weekly. Once you've done this, press the "play" button to continue.

  8. Step 8

    Set the date and time you wish to record a program. Use the "play" and "stop" buttons to cycle through different times and dates, and then press the "fast forward" button to proceed to the next step once you have finished.

  9. Step 9

    Use the "play" and "stop" buttons to set the stop time for the recording. Press "fast forward" to go to the next screen when you're ready.

  10. Step 10

    Press the "play" and "stop" buttons to get to the channel you want to record. When you get to the desired channel, press the "fast forward" button.

  11. Step 11

    Press the "play" and "stop" buttons to scroll through the different recording speeds. Find the speed you want and press "fast forward." Then press the "power" button to save the timer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that your VCR must be turned off for it to record a program. You must also remember to insert a blank VHS tape into your VCR before the program is set to begin recording.
