Cooking with eggs offers endless recipe possibilities, as so many great dishes contain some form of egg or another. However, one of the more frustrating aspects of cooking with eggs can be the simple task of separating the egg white from the yolk. It seems easy, but oftentimes it causes more headaches in the kitchen than it should. How many times time have gotten some yolk in your white? Or bits of eggshell in the egg that you have to pick out? Using a simple funnel makes it easy to separate the white from the yolk.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Kitchen funnel
  • Eggs
  • Bowl or container
  1. Step 1

Place a funnel over the top of a cup or other container that will hold the eggs. Make sure the mouth of the container is smaller than the funnel so that it will stay in place.

  2. Step 2

Crack an egg into the funnel. Be careful not break off any bits of the shell, or to break the yolk. As long as the yolk is not broken, it will remain in the funnel while the egg white slides into the container below.

  3. Step 3

Tip the funnel up and let the yolk slide into another container.

  4. Step 4

Repeat the process for as many eggs as your recipe requires. Remove the yolk each time before cracking another egg into the funnel or there will be too much mass in the funnel for the white to slide through.

Tips & Warnings
  • Crack the eggs gently: you don't want the yolk or the shell breaking off into small pieces
