How to Make a Two-Leg Easel
If you like to paint or draw, then you would probably benefit from an easel. An art easel can be purchased in an arts and crafts store, but they can be rather costly. You can make your own two-leg easel with simple tools and just a few pieces of wood.
Things You'll Need
- 2 pieces of wood at least 2 feet wide and an inch thick (as tall as easel user)
- 2 hinges
- Screws
- Screw gun
- 2-foot 2x2
- Sandpaper
- Saw
- Square
Instructions
-
-
1
Square and sand your pieces of wood.
-
2
Cut one piece of wood slightly shorter than the other, a foot or two, depending on the length of your pieces and the intended height of your easel.
-
-
3
Attach your hinges to the top of the short piece of wood.
-
4
Line the bottom of the shorter piece of wood with the bottom of the longer piece of wood and attach the hinges to the longer piece of wood. The hinges should be sandwiched between the two pieces of wood when closed. This will allow your easel to open to resemble the shape of an A when standing.
-
5
Attach your 2x2 to the front of the longer piece of wood horizontally slightly above waist height. This gives you a ledge to rest your canvas on at a comfortable height for painting or drawing.
-
6
Stand your easel up by resting the bottom edge on the ground and pulling the back, or shorter piece of wood, out until it stands on its own, similar to a ladder.
