How to Make Your Own Scented Oil Refills
Scented oil home air fresheners are a great way to add fragrance to the entire home. Not only are they convenient to use, but the scent is generally long-lasting. Sprays are great for a quick boost of fragrance, but need to be reapplied often to renew the scent. Unfortunately the refills for oil air fresheners are expensive and need to be replaced in a few weeks. You can make you own for pennies by buying your own oil and refilling the dispenser. 1
Purchase scented oil designed to be heated in a potpourri burner. You can find this in craft and candle stores. Prices vary, but you can often purchase a pint or quart bottle for a few dollars.
-
2
Use a fingernail file or the blade of a knife to loosen the plastic cap on the dispenser in your scented oil unit. Gently work it free from the bottle.
-
-
3
Refill the bottle with scented oil and replace the cap. Check that it snaps in place and is securely fastened to the dispenser.
-
4
Replace the bottle in the fragrance unit and snap in place. If your unit uses heat to disperse the fragrance, watch it carefully to avoid fires. Do not leave the unit unattended or in operation overnight. Units that create a burst of fragrance without the aid of heat are safer to use.
