Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the power to the dryer by either unplugging from the wall or by the circuit breaker. Once you have disconnected the dryer, slide the dryer away from the wall so that you can comfortably get behind it.

    • 2

Remove the 10 sheet metal screws from the back access panel. Use the 5/16" nut driver to remove the screws. Put the screws in a safe place so you can easily get to them when you reattach them. Slide the back panel down the power cord so that it will not be in the way.

    • 3

Move the idler pulley from the belt. This will remove the tension on the belt. Use the 5/16" nut driver to remove the screws and panel that are located on the metal plate behind the drum.

    • 4

Pry off the e-clip from the end of the drum shaft using a screwdriver. There will be 3 washers on the end of the shaft that will need to be removed. Once these have been removed, the drum will be able to slide from the rear bearing.

    • 5

Remove the four screws that are on the underside of the top panel. Lift the panel off. Remove the two screws that are inside the cabinet. Use both hands to grasp the drum having one hand on the front of the drum and the other hand on the back side. With both hands on drum pull it forward and lift the drum up and out.

    • 6

Remove the broken coils by loosening the nut on the end of the terminal. Remove all the old wires. Discard the old heating element. Stretch the inside coil to 42 1/2" and the outside coil to 49 1/2". Thread the new coils between the insulators and work in directions toward the terminal between the two washers and nuts using needle nose pliers.

    • 7

Reassemble following the instructions in reverse.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a drawing of how the belt fits around the idler pulley and motor pulley.

  • Use caution not to cut yourself on the drum. The edges are very sharp.
