Things You'll Need:
- iPod nano repair kit (or)
- Rubber mat
- Thin wedge
- Miniature flat-head screwdriver
- Miniature phillips-head screwdriver
-
Step 1
Turn off your iPod, make sure the hold switch is on "hold" and place the rubber mat on the table. The rubber mat will help prevent the iPod parts from picking up static electricity, which can cause damage.
-
Step 2
Run the thin wedge along the seam where the iPod front and back. If you purchased an iPod nano repair kit or replacement kit, the tools are usually included. It can be hard to find an opening at first, so you may need to start on the bottom, where the iPod charging cable connects. A thin plastic wedge such as a guitar pick works well if no wedge was included with your kit.
-
Step 3
Wiggle the wedge up and down as you run it along the seam. You may have to go around the edge of the iPod a few times before you can get the front and back to separate. When it does separate, do not immediately pull the pieces apart, as they are connected with wire ribbons. Instead, lay the iPod nano face-down on the rubber mat.
-
Step 4
Follow the instructions that came with your first-generation iPod nano repair kit, now that you have your iPod nano open. If tools were not included with your replacement or repair kit, use the miniature flat-head and phillips-head screwdrivers to disassemble the iPod, depending upon the necessary repair.
