How to Make Swiffer Dusters

Swiffer Dusters are a cleaning product that allows users to pick up dust from various surfaces without the use of cleaning chemicals or rags. The Dusters are sold in multipacks and come with a reusable handle.
However, homemade Swiffer dusters can be made for less than the cost of a package of duster refill pads. If done properly they can fit right on the existing Swiffer Duster handle and pick up dust easily when using them. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase enough microfiber cloth from an arts and crafts store or discount store to be able to cut out two squares of cloth that are 8 inches by 8 inches as well as two squares of cloth that are 4 inches by 6 inches.

    • 2

Use the scissors to cut out these squares of cloth. Lay the two larger pieces down flat, and lay the two smaller pieces down on top of each larger piece. There should be one smaller piece of cloth on top of each large piece.

    • 3

Sew a small piece to each large piece of cloth. Sew it down the center so that the small cloth is held on to the large cloth by one center line of stitching.

    • 4

Place the two separate pieces (each with one large and one small piece of cloth) on top of each other so that the small pieces are on the outside.

    • 5

Sew the pieces together to make an opening 6 inches high and just about 1 1/4 inches wide in the center. Do this by starting up slightly to the left of the center, going 6 inches up and stitching a half circle until you are going back down toward the bottom.

    • 6

Insert the Swiffer Duster handle in the opening between the stitching. Take the scissors and randomly cut all around the edges of the cloth. This will leave the homemade duster with many small flaps of cloth hanging off of it.

    • 7

Clean with this homemade duster until the duster is filled with dirt and dust. Clean the pad after each use, and reuse it multiple times.
