How To Connect An RF Modulator

If you have an older or a basic television, connecting devices to the TV is a more challenging task. You will need a little extra support in the form of an RF modulator. An RF modulator allows you to connect outside input such as DVD players, VCRs and gaming consoles to the television. Connecting an RF modulator can be done quickly.

Things You'll Need

• RF modulator
• AV cable
• Coaxial cables

Instructions

Connecting an RF Modulator

1. Turn the power off to the television, and remove the antenna cable from the input port on the back of the television if the cable is currently hooked up.

2. Re-connect the antenna cable you just took from the back of the TV to the "input" port on the back of the RF modulator.

3. 

   Take another coaxial (antenna) cable and connect it to the "out" port on the back of the RF modulator, and then connect it to the "cable in" port on the back of the TV.

4. Plug the RF modulator into a power source.

5. 

   Connect the AV cable to the RF modulator, matching the color-coded ends with the color-coded ports.

6. Connect the other end of the AV cable to the AV ports on the device you wish to connect.

7. Turn the channel select switch on the back of the RF modulator to Channel 3. When using your device, set your television to Channel 3 as well.

Tips & Warnings

• Some devices do not use all three ends of the AV cable, but this will not affect the performance.

• When connecting several devices, such as RF modulator, TV and DVD player, use a quality surge protector to prevent circuit overload or electrical damage to your devices.
