The real estate PSI exam is a computerized national real estate test. This exam can be coupled with state examinations as well and is a mandatory requirement for anyone interested in entering the real estate career field. Passing this exam can be a difficult task as there is quite a bit of information that must be retained in order to apply for a real estate license.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get supplemental training materials. As with any difficult exam, the materials gained from classroom or online learning environments can be supplemented well by practice exams for the test. These can be found on the PSI website, for free. Take as many practice exams as possible in order to be prepared for the actual PSI test.

  2. Step 2

Take practice tests one section at a time. Based on the scores of your practice exams, you should be able to identify any weak areas in your eduction. Determine which sections you are weakest in and review that material at least two times before taking another practice exam.

  3. Step 3

Obtain various versions of practice exams from other sources. There are many great books that offer up exams that are very similar to the wording used in the PSI test. Invest in one or two practice test books prior to taking the exam.

  4. Step 4

Form a study group of other individuals waiting to take or schedule their exam. This will help to keep you motivated and accountable in your studies all the way through test day. Find people who are closest to your levels of knowledge and expertise so that you can learn together, but make sure you aren't covering remedial materials.

  5. Step 5

Be well rested for test day. Make sure you had a good night's rest and eat a full breakfast before taking the PSI exam. It is a two hour exam so it's best to go in at full strength.

  6. Step 6

Don't take practice exams on test day. Once you are ready to go into the test if you don't know something it's best to just use the process of elimination while testing. Taking practice exams on test day will cause you to be overloaded and over think many of the questions.

  7. Step 7

Be prepared for curve ball questions. There are 10 questions in each PSI exam that you aren't graded on but they are put in the exam to see how you will respond to them. This allows the National Association of Realtors to evaluate and see if additional questions should be added to the exam in the future.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is no substitution for studying. Study at least two hours per day on your real estate materials for the best chance of success.
