A filter pump circulates water through a disposable filter to keep swimming pool water clean for use. The cartridge traps dirt, pollen and debris that may be present in the water. Intex, the manufacturer of Sand 'N' Sun pools, recommends circulating all pool water through the filter once every day. Filter cartridges are available in a variety of sizes. Refer to your pump specifications to purchase the right filter for your pump. Intex recommends changing the cartridge every two weeks. The procedure for replacing the filter is the same for all pump models.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn off the filter pump. Close the water access at the pool to the in and out hoses for the pump. This will be done by either plugging the hoses or closing the access valves, depending on the pump model.

  2. Step 2
    Top screw and ring.

    Top screw and ring.

Turn the top screw counterclockwise to release suction. Twist the large, gray ring counterclockwise. Remove the cover and set it aside.

  3. Step 3

Remove the used filter, if present, and discard. Grasp the cartridge by the top and pull it from the pump assembly. Check for large debris in the pump chamber.

  4. Step 4

Insert a new filter cartridge into the pump. Line up the hole the in filter with the peg at the bottom of the pump. Press down gently until the cartridge stays in place without shifting.

  5. Step 5

Replace the pump top. Tighten the large ring and top screw with your fingers. Open the access to the in and out hoses. Loosen the top screw to release air trapped in the pumping system. Tighten the screw when water begins to seep out around it.
