How to Convert FLAC to WAV in Linux
FLAC is a lossless audio format, meaning that no sound quality is lost when a CD track or other audio file is converted to it. FLAC has a smaller file size than other lossless formats, one of which is WAV. FLAC is not nearly as well-supported as WAV by iPods, other portable digital audio players, or computer programs, so converting from FLAC to WAV is sometimes necessary or more convenient.

1
Download the Sound Converter tarball (see Resources). It should read soundconverter-1.4.3.tar.gz. The numbers in the file name are a version number; however, if that number is different, it's OK.
-
2
Unpack the files from the tarball, then compile and install Sound Converter.
-
-
3
Run Sound Converter, then click "Edit" and "Preferences." Under "Type of result?", select WAV. You can adjust the Bitrate Mode and Quality. Click "Close."
-
4
Click the "Add File" button to select files for conversion. (Click the "Add Folder" button to add an entire folder's worth of files to the conversion queue.) After selecting files, click "Open."
-
5
Click "Convert." By default, Sound Converter saves the converted files to the same folder as the originals. You can adjust where the new files are saved under Preferences.
