Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length for the first piece of siding by measuring the area of the wall that you are beginning with. Start with the very bottom of the wall you are siding, at the outermost edge of the wall. Leave at least one inch from the bottom for expansion and contraction, or heed the manufacturer's directions for how much space to leave.

    • 2

Drill an oly screw into one end of the first piece of siding into the stud of the wall.

    • 3

Lift the other end of the siding up to the wall. Make sure the siding is completely level before securing it to the wall with another oly screw (use a level). When the siding has been secured, check the level once more. If you notice, through the course of drilling, the level has shifted, use a shim to correct it.

    • 4

Place another piece of siding tightly against the end of the first piece and measure. If it needs to be cut where the wall ends, mark it with a pencil and cut using a circular saw. Place on wall and use the same method to secure it as you used with the first piece of siding.

    • 5

Complete the bottom row. When ready to move to the next row, begin at the opposite side and continue the process.

    • 6

Place screws along the wall every 24 inches when the wall is complete for added security. Fill in screw holes with putty or joint compound.

    • 7

Seal log siding with chinking in between each row and between each joint.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read the manufacturer's instructions thoroughly before you begin the install. Different manufacturers may call for different steps to be taken before you begin the install, though the actual install directions are generally the same.
