Step 1
Insert two AA batteries by removing the cover on the bottom back of the system. If you use the "Battery Save" option, each set of batteries will last over 20 hours.
-
Step 2
Take your Garmin to an open outdoor area with an unobstructed view of the sky. Hold down the power button and a welcome screen should appear. The Garmin will find satellites and tell you that it is "ready to navigate."
-
Step 3
Press the "Page" button until you reach the menu page. Scroll to the "Mark" command and press the enter key. This marks a waypoint, which is the first step in any navigation.
-
Step 4
Switch to the map page by pressing the "Page" button, then begin walking. You'll see where you're going and any changes in direction.
-
Step 5
Create a "GOTO," which stands for "GOing TO a destination in a straight line." Press the "Page" button to get to the menu page and select "Waypoints." Then select the "Home" tab and press the enter key. Select "Home," press "Enter," then choose the GOTO and press "Enter" again.
-
Step 6
Press the "Page" button to reach the navigation page, which will guide you back to your starting point. Walk in the direction that the arrow points. The Garmin will tell you how far you are from your destination and how long it will take you to get there.

on 10/28/2009 Why cant Garmin make a manual "GPS For Dummies" like made for computer newbies. The manual that comes with Handheld unit would fit a car unit better. They need to make it user frendly for use new to GPS. Just my opinion. Thanks John Myers
