How to Make Rhinestone Jewelry Mesh
Making your own rhinestone jewelry with wire mesh is a very simple craft project that is ideal for beginners. Wire mesh is sold by the sheet in copper, brass and aluminum and is easily cut for any jewelry project you wish to make. These step-by-step instructions are for making a rhinestone and wire mesh pendant on a necklace made from cording. Adjust the style and dimensions of the pendant to suit your personal taste.
Things You'll Need
- Aluminum wire mesh
- Wire cutters
- Sew on rhinestones
- 30 gauge wire
- Needle nose pliers
- Cording
- Scissors
- Two cord coils
- Jump ring
- Flat nose pliers
- Lobster claw clasp

Cut a strip of wire mesh 3-inches-long by 2-inches wide. File the edges smooth with a metal file.

Cut six 3-inch strips of 30 gauge wire. Thread one wire through the two openings on the back of each rhinestone, centering the rhinestone on the wires. Bend the wires 90 degrees away from the rhinestone with the needle nose pliers.

Place one rhinestone at the top of the mesh strip. Secure it to the strip by closing the wires at the back with your pliers. Place the second rhinestone at the bottom of the strip, securing it the same way. Place the third rhinestone in the center of the first two.

Cut an 18-inch length of cording. Thread the cording through the mesh at the top of your pendant, behind the rhinestone, pulling it even on both sides.

Insert one end of the cording into one of the cord coils, making sure that the cording fits at least half way into the coil. Press the end of the coil that covers the cording with the flat nose pliers. Open the jump ring and insert it through the tip of the coil. Repeat this process on the other side of your mesh necklace, substituting the lobster claw clasp in place of the jump ring.

Scatter small rhinestones in the mesh between the large rhinestones for a mosaic looking pendant.
Wire mesh can have sharp edges.
