How to Glue in Hair Extensions

Hair extensions offer the luxury to be able to change the length and/or color of your hair. There are a few different methods of putting in extensions. If you are ready for short-term change, gluing your extensions is the way to go.

Things You'll Need

• Hair weft (tracks)
• Weave bond glue
• Rat-tail comb
• Wide-tooth comb
• Blow dryer
• Shampoo
• Conditioner
• Flat iron
• Hair scissors

Instructions

1. Shampoo your hair, then condition it as usual.

2. Blow-dry your hair completely. Once you have finished blow-drying your hair, use a flat iron to make it straight.

3. Part a small section of hair, using your rat-tail comb, in the back of your head about 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. Tie the rest of your hair up into a rubber band or clip.

4. Using the track of hair, measure the length of the part, then cut the track to fit the part.

5. Apply the bond glue in a straight line onto the threads at the top of the track of hair. Do not squeeze the bottle of glue too hard because it can get messy.

6. Pick up the track by holding it between your index finger and thumb. The glued part should be facing away from you.

7. Press one side of the track down into the part at the hairline, then slowly lay the track onto the part all the way across to the other end of the part. You will know the track is set in the part because the glue will be cold. Be careful not to lay the track directly on your hair.

8. Press down the edges of the tracks for 30 seconds. The glue will instantly turn rubbery and bond the track to your head.

9. Blow-dry the glue on low for 30 seconds. Then flat-iron the entire section of hair that is now hanging down.

10. Part another section of hair, leaving about 2 inches of space from the first track, and tie the rest back up. Repeat Steps 4 through 9 until entire head is complete. Using your wide-tooth comb, comb through your hair, blending it all together.

Tips & Warnings

• Bond glue can be very messy and may not come out of clothes. Bond glue turns to a rubber substance once dry, so be careful not to get big globs of it onto hair. Do not try to pull tracks out; use a bond glue remover.
