How to Convert a Room into a Gun Safe
Investing in a gun safe is a wise decision. Gun safes keep firearms out of the hands of children who could accidentally injure someone. They also keep firearms out of the hands of criminals. Converting a room into a gun safe adds a layer of protection because the guns and ammunition can be in locked cabinets behind a locked door. Whether you buy your fixtures pre-made or build them yourself, a small room can easily be outfitted as a gun safe. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Select an interior room to convert (or the basement) that has no windows. If you must use a room with windows, remove the windows and refurbish the outside of the house so it isn't apparent that there used to be windows.
-
2
Build or purchase lockable cabinets for your gun collection or purchase a pre-made gun safe to put in the room. Make sure to include drawers that can be locked for ammunition storage and other firearm supplies.

3
Put in shelving or cubby holes for non-lethal equipment like scopes and gun bags.
-
4
Put a sturdy deadbolt lock on the door. Replace hollow core doors that are easy to break into. Consider installing a steel door with several deadbolts and hinges that can't be cut out. Build a bookcase or large piece of furniture to conceal the door.
-
5
Construct or buy a workbench and stool or table and chairs that can be used for gun cleaning or repair. Keep volatile and toxic cleaning supplies under lock and key.
-
6
Install a large capacity dehumidifier and a heating and cooling system that can be kept at a constant temperature. When you install the system, make sure it will also provide ventilation.
