Typical baby rooms are decorated in shades of pale pink or baby blue, with images of teddy bears or ducks. Those common themes are not the style for all parents; some parents like to think outside the box when decorating their babies' rooms. Fans of rockabilly and Elvis music in general will have fun coming up with a design for an Elvis baby room.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sewing machine (optional)
  • Spray adhesive
  • Small lamp with white shade
  • Quilt batting (non-allergenic if allergies run in your family)
  • Mod Podge
  1. Step 1

Visit local fabric stores or online fabric stores to find Elvis print fabric. There are several fabrics with Elvis designs, in various shades to fit any taste. Purchase at least 10 yards of fabric so that you will have enough fabric to decorate the entire room.

  2. Step 2

Purchase paint in a shade that coordinates with the Elvis fabric that you purchased. For the best look, pick a shade that plays a minor part in the fabric. For example, if the Elvis fabric is primarily teal and pink, with highlights of yellow, choose a paint that matches the yellow highlights.

  3. Step 3

Buy a small lamp with a plain white shade that fits on the baby's dresser.

  4. Step 4

Sew a baby quilt, using the batting in the middle layer. If you don't know how to sew, hire a seamstress to create all of the things you need with the fabric that you purchased.

  5. Step 5

Make curtains or valances for the baby's room using the Elvis fabric. If too much sunlight comes into the baby's room, you can add mini-blinds or window shades.

  6. Step 6

Sew bumper pads for the crib using the Elvis fabric. Make them with ties on the top and bottom, spaced out every few inches so that the bumper pads will be properly secured to the crib. Use precautions when putting your child to sleep in a crib with bumper pads.

  7. Step 7

Use the Elvis print fabric to make covers for any stuffed items in the baby's room, such as a rocking chair cusion or a Boppy cover.

  8. Step 8

Remove the plain white lampshade from the lamp and lay it on a large piece of the Elvis fabric. Roll the lampshade along the fabric, using a pencil to trace the edges, so that you will have a piece of fabric the same size and shape as the lampshade. Cut out the piece of Elvis fabric. Spray the lampshade with the spray adhesive and affix the Elvis fabric to the lampshade. When the lampshade is completely dry, place it in the baby's room.

  9. Step 9

Make accents for the room. You may want to use Mod Podge to affix images of Elvis onto the baby's dresser drawer knobs or drawer fronts, for example. Use Mod Podge to cover the light switch plate and outlets with images of Elvis or some of the Elvis fabric.

  10. Step 10

Buy a small CD player and several CDs of instrumental Elvis songs to use as lullaby music to put your baby to sleep in his room.

  11. Step 11

Add posters of Elvis on the walls. You can frame these in colors that match your decor. Black and white photos and posters are timeless and will match any color scheme.

  12. Step 12

Purchase accessories for your room, such as an Elvis figurine or Elvis clock. Scour online auction sites, novelty shops and thrift stores. You never know what you might find that might work perfectly in your Elvis nursery.
