Things You'll Need:
- High school diploma or GED
- OR a Bachelors degree in business or finance
-
Step 1
Become a state licensed insurance agent. Every U.S. state requires insurance agents to be licensed, but requirements for various types of insurance the agent will be selling vary by state. Most states require at least a high school diploma and passing an exam that proves competency and knowledge in the field.
-
Step 2
Apply for the property and casualty insurance license examination. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) determines what type of licensing is needed for agents who want to sell hail insurance.
-
Step 3
Study for the Property and Casualty insurance exam. This is a rigorous exam that covers general insurance knowledge, homeowners insurance, dwellings, commercial packages and insurance for boat owners. You will also need to learn about insurance coverage laws and policies, the underwriting process for hail damage and different policy structures applicable to different types of businesses, residential structures and automobiles.
-
Step 4
Take the Property and Casualty insurance exam. This exam consists of multiple choice questions that test your knowledge of insurance regulation, policy structures, and local laws and guidelines for authorizing coverage after hail damage and other natural disasters.
-
Step 5
Apply for a job with an insurance agency. Homeowners and property insurance agencies hire individuals who have the education, skills and licenses needed to sell hail insurance and other types of property insurance policies. When you have passed the Property and Casualty insurance exam, you will be authorized to sell hail insurance to individuals and businesses.
