How to Clean a Printer Scanner

Because a printer scanner is a two-in-one device, it is used more often than if you had two separate devices. Cleaning a printer scanner can be done in a few easy steps, and if you keep it up, it should stay clean for as long as you're using it.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 soft, lint-free cloths
  • Eyeglass cleaner
  • Can of compressed air

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off and unplug your printer scanner.

    • 2

Open the back of the printer scanner. Spray out all of the dust and particles using a can of compressed air, such as Air In A Can (see Resources).

    • 3

Check the back of the printer scanner for debris such as jammed paper. Remove any debris that you see.

    • 4

Open the lid of your printer scanner.

    • 5

Put a dime-sized amount of eyeglass cleaner on a soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe down the scan area of the printer scanner. Use a circular motion.

    • 6

Wipe the excess eyeglass cleaner off of the printer scanner using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth in order to remove any extra liquid.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of eye-glass cleaner, you may use mild detergent and water. After cleaning, plug your printer scanner back into the wall, and test it out to see if it produces better results.

  • If your owner's manual suggests different instructions, follow them to avoid hurting your printer scanner.
