Step 1
Measure the room to determine how much material you will need. Multiply the length by the width to determine square footage. You can purchase Armstrong vinyl sheet flooring from your local home improvement store or directly from the manufacturer's website. Add about 10 percent to the square footage you calculated to account for material loss due to cutting.

Check your subfloor. Armstrong sheet vinyl flooring can be installed over concrete, wood or vinyl subfloors. If you are dealing with any other surface, remove the existing floor covering before attempting to install this material.

Prepare the subfloor. Remove loose nails, staples, or flooring pieces. Secure any loose floor boards or vinyl tiles, and use a self-leveling compound to fill holes in concrete. Complete your subfloor preparation with a thorough sweeping or vacuuming to remove all dirt and debris.

Cover the entire floor surface with heavy brown paper. Tape the sheets together, using duct tape so that you can accommodate the entire room.Trace around the room's perimeter, including walls, furnishings, and cabinets, using a pencil or pen.

Unroll the sheet flooring and let it relax. Place the paper template on top of the sheet flooring. Use the template as a guide as you cut the vinyl, using a utility knife and straight edge. The width of each section depend upon the width of the roll of vinyl you are working with.

Start in a corner of the room. Use your trowel to apply a thin layer of Armstrong flooring adhesive to the floor in an area about one foot square. Lay the vinyl over this area and use the floor roller or rolling pin to press it flat. Continue this process, applying adhesive in a small area at a time until you finish that sheet.

Step 7
Line the second sheet up tightly to the first and repeat Step 6 across the length of the room.

Roll the seams in the flooring one final time. Consider installing vinyl cove base around the room to cover the joints and complete the look of the floor.
